The Legend is no more

Despite him being a former Palace hero as a player, the fans have never taken to him as manager and have been unhappy with his direct style of football.

Palace ended last season just inside the top half but for a club still on a parachute payment the demands were for a push for promotion as had been the case in the previous season under Dowie when they reached the play offs.

They got the season off to a sensational start with a 4-1 win at Southampton, but they've won only once since, a 3-2 home win against Sheffield United. Since then it has been two points out of nine, one against us and one from a home draw on Saturday against his previous club Hull.

Chairman Simon Jordan is hardly know for his patience and Taylor was their eighth manager this side of the Millennium but Taylor's days were definitely numbered when he questioned the Chairman over money and then had to hear one of his signings James Scowcroft refer to the poor moral in the dressing room, virtually admitting that the manager had lost the respect of the players.

Palace are the third Championship side to opt for a change of manager since the start of the season. He follows Martin Allen (Leicester) and John Gregory who departed QPR last week.
