If there is any consolation he doesn’t target away players with his bookings, he’s probably far too busy to work it out, and 33 of this season’s yellow cards have gone to home team players and 27 to away team players.
Despite all this, as we found at Plymouth last season, he does tend to bottle it when a second yellow comes up and despite all the cards this season he has only sent off one player, Walsall’s Julian Bennett in a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.
If Probert goes to form tonight then we can expect a game that is not allowed to flow, and a game full of yellow cards – he was one of the worst referees I saw last season and I find his appointment worrying.
