The Boys from Burnley

The two players in question are Paul Fletcher and Steve Kindon who will be on stage together in their ‘The Boys from Burnley’ act at the Burnley League at the Burnley League next Monday 22nd September.

Kindon was already in the first team when Fletcher arrived at the Turf from Bolton in 1971 but they didn’t play too many games together before Kindon was on his way out to Wolves just over a year later.

Both were soon playing 1st Division football again as the Clarets went back up and there were number of games against each other with both sides going down in 1976. Not much over a year later they were team mates again as Harry Potts brought Kindon back from Wolves with us bottom of the league.

We stayed up comfortably and in the following season they were both in the side that won the Anglo Scottish Cup with victory against the very un-Scottish Oldham in a two legged final.

Things didn’t go too well for Burnley in the following 1979/80 season and when Brian Miller replaced Harry Potts as manager both players were soon to leave, both dropping divisions and being signed by former Clarets.

Kindon went to 4th Division Huddersfield who were at the time managed by former full back Mick Buxton whilst Fletcher was transferred to Blackpool, then in Division Three, along with Peter Noble. The manager at Bloomfield Road was one Stanley Ternent.

Now the two of them, after much success on the after dinner circuit, are together again and on stage in Burnley.

The evening starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are priced at £10 including pie and peas supper. For further details or to buy tickets please contact Veronica Simpson of the Ex-Clarets in Sport on 01282 436869 (evenings).
