Ternent to make draw

That's Ray Ternent of course, not Stan Ternent, but once upon a time there was confusion between the two. Ray is two years younger than Stan and both were at Burnley at the same time trying to break through into the first team.

Ray made thirteen league appearances for the Clarets, and like his namesake Stan his debut came in a heavy away defeat. That was just a month before Stan's debut and we lost 4-0 at Southampton. He never established himself in the Burnley side and his last game was a 3-2 home defeat against Huddersfield in November 1970.

With the Clarets relegated at the end of that season Ray was released and he moved to Southend and was a regular in the side for two seasons, playing at right back, before moving back north to Doncaster. He ended his league career at Donny in the summer of 1977 and played in non-league football before returning to the Burnley area.

His Burnley career ended in 1971 but his involvement with Burnley FC didn't and in more recent years he was part of the club's commentary team during a period when they sold video recordings of the games.

The big question often asked about Ray Ternent is whether he is related to any other former Claret so we can clear this one up now. The answer is YES – very much so – he is cousin of former Burnley and England centre forward Ray Pointer.
