Ternent set for return

Earlier this week Derby cleared out little Billy and nine of his little helpers and today, after being refused permission to speak to Paul Ince, they appointed former Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell as their new manager.

Jewell will have some work to do to fill up the spaces left following this weeks cull by new chairman Adam Pearson and it is strongly being speculated that one of those places could be taken up by our former manager Stan Ternent.

He's been out of the game, other than his scouting work, since he left Gillingham at the end of the 2004/05 season but if the speculation becomes reality, and we should know very soon, then he could be working alongside Jewell as his assistant manager.

Now aged 61 this would be his first role in the top division since he worked at Chelsea from 1991 to 1992, and I'm sure all Burnley fans will wish him all the best as Derby continue their fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League after going up through the play offs last season.
