Ternent goes back to Sunderland

He worked for Bruce as a European scout, a role he gave up only when he moved to Derby as assistant manager to Paul Jewell, after which he had a short period as manager at Huddersfield. He later worked with Bruce at Wigan.

Now, Bruce has handed him a scouting role at the Stadium of Light, according to reports this morning, and it says it will be a labour of love for Stan who is a Sunderland to his core.

He was previously at Sunderland as player and then coach. He signed for the Wearside club from Carlisle but injury prevented him ever making his debut for them, but it was at Sunderland where his coaching career started, leading to his first managerial job at Blackpool in the late 1970s.
