Teams of the Week – same as last week

Again there are no Clarets in the First Division team, again there was an opponent chosen and again a former Claret won a place in the centre of defence in the Second Division team.

The Wolves player selected was former Manchester United Denis Irwin who certainly had a steady game against us and capped it with the free kick that gave Wolves a 2-0 lead just after half time. He was though the only Wolves player to make the side.

The full team was: Darren Ward (Nottingham Forest), Denis Irwin (Wolves), Paul Robinson (Watford), Riccardo Scimeca (Nottingham Forest), Adrian Williams (Reading), John-Paul McGovern (Sheffield United), David Livermore (Millwall), Nayron Nosworthy (Gillingham), Phil Mulryne (Norwich), Lee Hughes (Coventry), Darren Bent (Ipswich).

In the Second Division it was the turn of Matty Heywood of Swindon to win a place in the team. Unlike Neil Moore last week Matty did at least play in a defence that had kept a clean sheet, achieved with a 0-0 draw at Blackpool. His Swindon side have made a good start to the new season with seven points from three games.

On Heywood’s selection the Football League said, "Last season’s player of the year, Heywood was once again a dominant force at the hear of Swindon’s defence as they ground out a 0-0 draw at Blackpool.

"Since his switch from Burnley last year, the big defender has been a revelation at the County Ground and the scouts will be sure to come flocking in the near future."

So Neil Moore and Matty Heywood so far in Division Two. All we need now is to see Burnley appearing a few times in the Division One team as was the case last season when for a period seeing two and even three Burnley players was no surprise.
