Taylor to take charge at Bramall Lane

Last updated : 05 December 2008 By Tony Scholes
He was elected to the Football League list in 2006 and so is now enjoying his third season, although there was a period early last season when he was hardly enjoying it. There seemed to be a run of games where managers were very critical and none more so than at two Championship games, Leicester v Watford and Hull v Charlton.

Things had hardly calmed down for him when he got his first Burnley game in January. Coinicidentally it was our first game after the cup tie with Arsenal, our 1-0 home win against Plymouth. In his previous game he'd controversially sent off Nottingham Forest's Kelvin Wilson in an incident where no one else saw a foul.

However, he had a good game that day and his performance merited the 80.3 rating he got in our Rate the Ref feature that seems him in eighth place in the table.

This season has also seen him calm down a bit with his cards and in 18 games to date has booked 44 players and sent off two.

The players to see red were Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy in their 2-2 draw at Leyton Orient and Flavien Belsen of Franchise as they went out of the Football League Trophy at home to Bournemouth. Of those yellow cards 21 have gone to home team players and 23 to away team players.

Tomorrow will be the first time he's refereed our opponents Sheffield United.

He will be assisted by Tony Harrington (Cleveland) and Ian Smedley (Derbyshire). The fourth official will be Andrew Smith (West Yorkshire).
