Taylor takes charge tonight

Last updated : 21 September 2004 By Tony Scholes

It’s over three years since he was here but on his three previous visits he has handed out a total of 17 yellow cards as well as sending of Tranmere’s Jason Koumas in a game towards the end of the 2000/01 season.

He’s been here for significant games, the last day of the season win over Plymouth that secured our 2nd Division status and saw the end of Waddle and also the last game of the last millennium when the Jimmy Mac Stand was opened and Payts grabbed a hat trick against Oxford.

Handing out cards is not a rare event for the Cheshunt official, last season he averages not far short of four per game with more than a fair share of reds. This season he’s made a quieter start with just twenty yellow cards and the one red card in seven games.

Seven of those yellows came at the Withdean as Brighton beat Preston, the Weary Whinger’s last stand. Eleven of the yellow cards have gone to home players whilst the red card also went the way of the home side when he sent off Danny Dichio as Millwall went down 2-0 to Watford on Sunday.

He mig
ht just be very busy tonight with suggestions that Wolves might leave out Paul Ince, the former England midfielder is usually a big help to the referee and quite often just takes over. Without him Taylor might well have to do the job on his own.

Should Ince not play he will be assisted instead by Allan Rawcliffe (Greater Manchester) and Keith Wilkinson (Northumberland).
