Steve was twice signed by Brian Miller after what had been traumatic seasons at the Turf, he first joined the club in the summer of 1980 after we had dropped into the 3rd Division for the first time, and then seven years later he was one of the players signed as we started the climb after the Orient game.
His first spell as a Claret lasted three years and he won a promotion and suffered a relegation in that time. He scored 37 league goals during those three seasons, partnering Billy Hamilton for much of the time.

He was released at the end of the season but Miller turned to him again at the start of the 1987/88 season to play alongside George Oghani but he netted just six times in the league and in his second season he failed to start a game. That first season he was back at Turf Moor saw us win through to the final of the Sherpa Van Trophy at Wembley and that day was the last time he started a game for the Clarets.

Steve was one of the most popular players in the dressing room, he was nicknamed Burt (in honour of Burt Reynolds) because of his film star looks by his team mates and I am told was always up for a laugh.
