Taylor at Hillsborough

Last updated : 18 September 2007 By Tony Scholes
The last time he refereed a Burnley game was back in March. On that occasion he was a late replacement for Pat Miller at Southend. That night there were two very poor performances, one from Southend and one from Burnley. To be fair Taylor had very little to do in a game that offered very little, although he did reach for his yellow card on four occasions.

Looking back, he's not a referee that has caused us too many problems, and hearing his final whistle on his first visit to Turf Moor back in 1998 brought great relief as we beat Plymouth 2-1 to stay up at the end of the 'Waddle season'.

Taylor is not a card happy referee and at times is a referee who likes to blend into the background and let the players get on with playing. This season so far in five games he's yellow carded fifteen players with ten of those being away team players.

His last red card was a week before the end of last season when he sent off Birmingham's Fabrice Muamba in a game that virtually ended Sheffield Wednesday's hopes of making the play offs.

He will be assisted by Paul Thompson (Derbyshire) and Andrew Newbold (Leicestershire) and the fourth official will be Mark Sutton (Derbyshire).
