Taylor – in and out in a day

Gareth Taylor - injury forces him out of the Welsh squad
It was something of a surprise to see Gareth’s name in there given that he is currently out injured with an eye injury that is more serious than was first thought. He sustained the injury in the first of the two Turf Moor friendlies, against Leeds, and it is thought that he will be out for at least six weeks with a mid-September return a hopeful target.

Gareth is still struggling and is still temporarily without sight in one eye and there was never any chance of him being able to join up with Wales for the big game on 20th August where it was expected he could be favourite to start in place of the injured John Hartson.

The Football Association of Wales issued a short statement last night confirming what we already knew that Gareth would not be able to play in this match.

It read, "Taylor has suffered an eye injury and has been advised that he will not have recovered in time for this match."

More importantly for us we will be hoping to have Taylor back and fit as soon as possible with his Burnley future perhaps more secure because of the injury. Norwich were pushing hard to sign him just over a week ago but now appear to have turned their attentions to former Claret Alan Lee.

Norwich were looking to get someone in for the start of the season but Taylor is set to sit out the first month of the season at least as the ‘short of players’ Clarets look to get a good start.
