Taffy backs Barnsley against Cardiff

Leighton James
Taffy is a regular on BBC Wales. He is involved in radio programmes, and we can all remember his argument with Robbie Savage over Wales the latter's exclusion from the international side and his argument with boss John Toshack. But it is words in the written press that have landed him in bother this time.

I knew Taffy well when he was at Burnley and I know, being a Swansea lad, his liking for Cardiff City is similar to mine for Blackburn Rovers. So I can appreciate how excited he must be at them reaching the FA Cup Semi-Final.

Writing in the South Wales Evening Post, he write that 99% of Swansea fans would support Barnsley in the semi-final and also he believed Cardiff fans would do the same if it were the other way round.

He said: "As a proud Welshman you want the clubs from your country to go as far as they can," But he added that he also wanted Swansea born Barnsley boss Simon Davey to do well and concluded: "So, to be brutally honest, I think I'm behind Barnsley on this one."

It hasn't gone down well at BBC Wales and they issued a short statement which read: "By mutual agreement, Leighton James will not be participating in any BBC Wales programmes for the foreseeable future."
