Swarbrick, now 48, became a Football League referee at the start of the 2005/06 season. It was a League Two game at Whaddon Road between Cheltenham and Boston which featured former Claret Brad Maylett in the Boston side.
Cheltenham won the game 3-0 and Boston ended it with ten men with Swarbrick brandishing his first red card to dismiss Ben Futcher.
He refereed two Championship games that season; his first at this level coming in January 2006, a 2-1 Cardiff win at Leicester with only one yellow card, that to Cardiff's Chris Baker.
He didn't overuse his cards that season, just 57 yellow and two red cards in 29 games, but there has been a steady increase from him over the seasons.
After six years as a Football League referee he was promoted to the Select Group ahead of the 2011/12 season but they'd tested the water with him and he'd refereed two Premier League games in the previous season.
His first was a 0-0 draw between Fulham and Sunderland at Craven Cottage, featuring Chris Baird for Fulham, and the second was a 4-0 win for Wolves against Blackpool when he showed his first Premier League red card to Blackpool's DJ Campbell.
Now an established Premier League referee, 17 of his 28 games this season have been at the top level. It's a season that has seen him show a total of 93 yellow cards, of which 46 have gone to home team players and 47 to away team players.
The one player he sent off came in a Championship game. It was Leeds' Stephen Warnock in a 1-0 defeat at Reading in September.
Regarding the cards - no Burnley player can now be suspended this season for an accumulation of yellow cards other than Dean Marney should he manage to collect another five in the last six games.
With the cut off for ten yellow cards coming this Sunday and David Jones being the closest on seven yellow cards, it is now not possible for him to be suspended.
Our only suspensions could now come from any red cards received.
The assistant referees tonight are Richard West (East Yorkshire) and Mick McDonough (Tyne & Wear). The fourth official is Football League referee Darren Bond (Lancashire), another referee still to be given a Burnley game.
