Swanny is guest

Peter Swan arrived from Plymouth on the eve of the 1995/96 season for a fee of £300,000, brought in as a replacement for Steve Davis who had turned down a contract offer from the Clarets and signed for Luton Town.

He was in and out of the side for a couple of seasons as the Clarets failed to win promotion back to Division One and he moved on to Bury just after Chris Waddle took over at Burnley.

It was Stan Ternent who signed him for Bury but twelve months later when Stan arrived at Burnley he made it clear he didn’t want to bring in Swan, a few weeks later Swanny arrived with Stretch Armstrong.

Injuries blighted his return though and he made just eleven starts during the 1998/99 season when we eventually fought off relegation and as the Clarets won promotion a year later he made just two substitute appearances before signing for York in March where he ended his career.

He played in over 500 league and cup games in his career that took in Leeds, Hull and Port Vale before he signed for Plymouth, sixty of those appearances coming for the Clarets.

Tonight he’s back and will make the half time draw at the match against QPR.
