John was very much part of that, just over two years after joining the Clarets, playing down the right wing and beating many defenders, particularly those from Northampton, with his electric pace.
He moved on at the end of that season but was back within a year and again was an important member of the side that went on to win another promotion. Sadly for John his Wembley appearance was short lived because of injury and it was an injury from which he never fully recovered.
Two years later he was released but over ten years on he is still very much a welcome visitor and the welcome he will receive today will show that.
And remember we went to York in our thousands, John's late goal ensured we came home as Champions.
