Martin Paterson
Martin Paterson - sixth cap
Paterson's missed out on a starting berth in the latest games and didn't even get on during Saturday's 2-0 defeat in Slovenia, but he won his sixth cap last night when he came on in Belfast against San Marino with eighteen minutes to go.

The score was 3-0 when he replaced former Scunthorpe team mate Grant McCann, and just three minutes later Steven Davies completed the scoring to make it 4-0 to the Irish.

Paterson thought he'd scored his first international goal right at the end of the game. With the last kick of the game he scored what looked like Northern Ireland's fifth but it was dubiously ruled out for offside.

Over in Braga, Albania recorded a superb 0-0 result against a very strong Portugal side, and having played over half the game with just ten men after Admir Tele was sent off just before half time. Again Berisha was named as a substitute as he continues to strive for full fitness, and it was cap number ten for him when he replaced Klodian Duro with thirteen minutes of the game remaining. He had a couple of good runs as he played as a lone striker as the Albanian's played for the draw in the second half.

Neither of these two countries are expected to be in South Africa for the finals in 2010 but this was another good draw for Albania, they had previously held Sweden to a draw, whilst for Northern Ireland it was a first win in their qualifying campaign at the fourth attempt.
