Styles again tonight

Last updated : 09 January 2007 By Tony Scholes
That wasn't the case, Foy was at Forest and Styles was always earmarked for our tie. It's a surprise Burnley fans recognised him though, it is almost seven years since he was last in charge of a Burnley game and the last Burnley player he yellow carded was none other than Ian Wright, in the one and only away game he started for the Clarets at Colchester, a game we won 2-1 courtesy of two Steve Davis goals.

Two year previously he was hardly a great help to Chris Waddle during his time as Burnley manager. Twice he refereed us away from home and twice he sent off one of our players, Lee Howey in a 2-1 defeat at Brentford and Mark Ford in Andy Payton's debut, a 1-0 loss at Bristol Rovers.

He's not the most popular of Premiership referees and, like many of them in the top league, he's not afraid to make use of his cards. In 22 games this season he's handed out 78 yellow cards and no fewer than seven red cards.

Of those 78 yellows, 36 of them have gone to home team players with the other 42 to away team players, so nothing much in that for us to worry about, and it is much the same with the red cards. His first three this season were all away players, his next three were all home players and the most recent was Aston Villa's Gareth Barry in their 2-1 defeat at Charlton making it four away players sent off.

He'll be more familiar to Reading, two of his sixteen Premiership games this season have featured the Royals, their 2-1 home win against Spurs and their 3-2 defeat at Newcastle.

One thing we can almost be certain on tonight, it won't be a card free game. Styles hasn't managed that since the 2004/05 season.

He will be assisted by Mike Mullarkey (Devon) and Chris Francis (Cambridgeshire) whilst Football League referee Danny McDermid (London) will act as fourth official.
