Stretch is special guest

Stretch only left the club at the end of last season and was in the side that lost the last game of the season at Franchise although this was his only start all season.

He was one of Stan’s early signings arriving from Bury along with Peter Swan on the Friday following the York match of the four sackings.

A day later and he scored on his debut although we were beaten 3-1 at Walsall but he went on to play for the Clarets for virtually five seasons and at one point was also the club captain, a job he appeared to lose having lost his place in the side.

He may have scored on his debut but he wasn’t prolific. He might have been the last non forward player to score fifty league goals for Sunderland but his grand total in 105 league appearances for Burnley was just four.

He struggled with injuries in his last couple of seasons with the Clarets and having settled in the north west he signed non-contract forms with Conference new boys Accrington Stanley where he has been used mainly as a substitute.

Today though he is back at Turf Moor and he should be assured a warm welcome from the home fans.
