Still Atkinson

The Leeds referee is only in his second season in the Football League but already he’s taken charge of Premiership games and looks all set to step up to the elite group next season after being fast tracked.

I’ve not seen him, other than on television, but he is conservative when it comes to handing out cards and so far this season he has booked 58 players and sent off just three.

Of those yellow cards, and despite a recent run of away bookings, he has given 28 to home team players and 30 to away team players. Two of the three red cards were in the same Barnsley v Doncaster game whilst the other was a second yellow for Tranmere’s Chris Dagnall for his goal celebration on the opening day of the season.

One thing we are not likely to expect is the sort of incompetent biased homer performance we saw from Tanner on Saturday and from all accounts we have a referee here who likes to help the players get on with playing football.

He will be assisted tonight by Rob Steams (Leicestershire) and Chris Sarginson (Staffordshire).
