Steve wants to keep Nathan

He made an instant impression on the Burnley fans and scored the equaliser as well as having another effort saved and a third coming back off the woodwork, and as we heard cries of ‘Sign him on’ (haven’t we heard that before for a player called Nathan?) manager Steve Cotterill was already hoping his stay could be extended.

Dyer has signed for an initial one month loan but Steve Cotterill has already claimed he’ll be speaking to Harry Redknapp to try and extend the deal, hopefully until the end of the season. Steve saw him play initially in a reserve game for the Saints and said, “He’s a livewire and I travelled to Southampton a few months ago to watch a reserve game, that journey proved worthwhile tonight.

“We are grateful to Harry for letting us have him and it is only initially for a short term loan, but I have told Harry that we would like to keep him here all season. He thinks it would be great for the boy and I have a good relationship with him so hopefully if Harry is reading this news it will save me a phone call because I have already asked him.”

It’s an amazing move from Steve given that he’s been with us for just a few days and has played only 45 minutes football for us. It is a decision that will certainly be greeted with delighr by those Clarets’ fans who saw that debut last night against Millwall.
