Steve has a seat in the stand at Sunderland

Steve lost it initially with the fourth official during our August Bank Holiday home defeat against the Gills after the visiting side had got away with some wild challenges.

There were words with the fourth official and referee Richard Beeby, who got nothing right all afternoon, came over which only seemed to make matters worse. The referee sent the Clarets’ boss to the stand for the remainder of the game.

He was charged by the FA, they seem to spend most of their time fining managers these days after they have complained about poor officials, and after the hearing was twice called off it finally went ahead in Manchester yesterday.

The result was a one match touchline ban with immediate effect and a fine of £800.

Steve Cotterill was far from happy with the decision but was able to joke about it when he said, “That probably means I have to take a few of the kids’ Christmas presents back now.

“As hard as it is to swallow, I’ve probably got to accept my punishment.”

Dave Kevan and Mark Yates will take charge down on the touchline on Saturday but I suspect Steve will be as close as possible and in contact with them.
