Stepney goes

The former Manchester United and England goalkeeper has been with the Clarets for just a season after losing his job at Maine Road after relegation from the Premiership. Stepney was one of the coaches that Joe Royle wouldn’t get rid of, a decision that ultimately saw the manager go down the road.

He has been at Burnley in a part time capacity coaching Michopoulos, Cennamo, Salisbury and Beresford during the last season but he will now be on the look out for work elsewhere.

Whether Stepney will be replaced at all remains unclear but the Clarets have not always had a goalkeeper coach. Others have done it on a part time basis and the only full time specialist we ever had was Chris Woods during Waddle’s reign. He has been at Everton since leaving Burnley four years ago and is now considered one of the best goalkeeper coaches in the country.
