Stephen Ward joins the Clarets

Ward spent the entire 2013/14 season on loan at Brighton, playing all but two of their games and playing in both games against us. He looked all set to sign for them on a permanent basis after being omitted at Wolves but the Seagulls were left angry when we moved in for him just as he was expected at the Amex for a medical.

Walking into the dressing room at Burnley he'll certainly see some familiar faces. All of David Jones, Michael Kightly, Jason Shackell and Sam Vokes were team mates at Molineux with all five of them members of the team that won the Championship during our first promotion season of 2008/09.

Wolves signed him from his home town club of Bohemians in Dublin back in January 2007 and he's gone on to play over 220 league games for them and ironically his last two games in Wolves' colours came against Burnley and Brighton, two games they lost to confirm their relegation to League One at the end of the 2012/13 season.

He joined Wolves as a striker having scored 26 times in 93 appearances for the Bohs, but he's since played in a left sided midfield role and at left back when George Elokobi suffered a serious injury early in the 2008/09 season.

It was in May 2011 that he got his first call up for Ireland. He made his debut against Northern Ireland in the Nations Cup and has gone on to represent his country, to date, on 24 occasions.

His move to Brighton came after he was one of a group of players immediately made available for transfer by Kenny Jackett when he took over at Molineux in the summer of 2013. He remained a Wolves player and instead joined Brighton on loan where he was a huge success.

The Brighton fans were delighted with the news that he was returning. It all looked done and dusted until Burnley also agreed a fee with Wolves. That's led to him signing for us today on a three year deal as Sean Dyche adds to his squad.
