Stan's back

On that date Burnley travel to Gillingham for a Championship match and this will be a bit different than previous visits with the news today that Stan Ternent has been appointed as the new manager to replace Andy Hessenthaler.

He was confirmed this morning at a press conference and as expected he has named Ronnie Jepson as his number two. Both him and Jeppo have signed deals that take them to the end of the 2006/07 season.

I think it will be something of a disappointment to Stan that the Turf Moor clash, one he also missed last season, has already been played but I am certain he will be very much looking forward to that April clash.

He won’t have too far to travel to his first match although it couldn’t have been much tougher, Gillingham are at the JJB Stadium against league leaders Wigan this Saturday.

Former Burnley managers don’t often go on to manage elsewhere and when the Clarets do play at Priestfield in April it will be one of those rare occasions when we come up against a former boss. The last time was during our promotion season of 1999/2000 when we played Wigan on three occasions whilst John Benson was in charge there.

It goes without saying that we wish Stan all the best in what will be his fifth managers job.
