It doesn't come as a surprise that Stan is back with Hull City given that Steve Bruce became manager at the KC Stadium during the summer. Stan has worked for Bruce on the scouting side at Birmingham, Wigan and more recently at Sunderland.

Bruce has now taken him back to Hull, where he was manager from 1989 to 1991, as head of recruitment.

"Steve Bruce has been my friend for a lot of years," Ternent said. "I did a bit of work for him looking at players when was manager at Birmingham, at Wigan and at Sunderland.

"He rang me up and asked if I would like to oversee all of recruitment at Hull and I said I would do. I did decide I was going to retire. I wanted to spend some time with my family, there is more to life than just football."

But Stan added: "Retirement is not for me, I'm too active."
