Stan Ternent turns down Shakers

Bury, like the Clarets, are currently going through a difficult time, and they are on a run themselves of sixteen games without a win, a run that has seen them drop from ninth in the table in January to one point above the drop zone and non-league football.

They are not looking to replace manager Chris Casper, son of former Burnley player and manager Frank, and only last month he signed a new deal to keep him at Gigg Lane until the end of the 2008/09 season.

The shakers approached their former boss with a view to him rejoining the club short term to assist Casper until the end of the season but he's decided to decline the offer and will not be going back to the club he lifted two divisions during his time there as manager.

Ternent said: "Bury is a club I hold very dear to my heart. I am the most successful manager they have ever had and they mean a great deal to me. If there is anything I could do to help them, I would. But if I were to come in at this stage of the season with seven games to go, I'm afraid it would do nothing but upset the apple cart."

He went on to say: "Chris Casper is a bright young manager who is making his way in the game. For me to come in, and I have only seen the team play once or twice in the last few years, would do nothing at all.

"I am sorry if any of this has affected the players or staff at Bury, and I do wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season."

Casper now takes his Bury side to York Street for a vital game against Boston who are currently below them in the table on goal difference.
