Stan signs new deal

The current contracts expire at the end of this season, Stan's fifth as the Clarets' boss but they have both signed one year extensions that will see them remain in charge until the end of the 2003/04 season.

This will ensure that Stan will be the club's longest serving manager since Harry Potts who was in charge for almost 12 years from 1958 to 1970, a period that saw Stan start his career with the Clarets.

The negotiations have been going on for some time and with Fred West having signed a new deal this week it is also a positive sign that the club's finances are somewhat less perilous.

So Stan will crack on until 2004 and there won't be many dissenting voices with this latest news from Turf Moor.
