Stan moves up to seventh

Laws had been with Scunthorpe for just over seven years but this season has not been a good one for the former Claret. A home defeat this week against Carlisle left them just six points clear of the relegation zone.

Scunthorpe incredibly become the fourteenth team in Division Three to change manager this season and Laws’ departure means that, Stan apart, Chris Brass is now the only former Burnley player in management.

He’s had his run ins with the Clarets over recent years but the best of the lot was when he had a go, aimed at Stan, after they had beaten us in the FA Cup three years ago. It was the night Stan lost it with a steward.

After that game Laws said, "I have a lot of affection for Burnley and I'm not going to rubbish the club because it's not their fault.

"As far as I'm concerned the fact we won proved that highly paid footballers who aren't bothered about results shouldn't start belittling lower division sides. There is no place for jibes like 'my bank balance is bigger than yours' on a football pitch. It's like being at school when kids say 'my dad is bigger than yours.' I thought football was supposed to be an adults game.

"At the end of the day my players showed tremendous restraint and great attitude. We might be a Third Division side but I wouldn't swap any of my players for Ternent's."

Stan does make a less than complimentary reference to Laws in his book.
