Stan in quit threat

But today Stan has gone further and told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph that he is ready to walk away unless things improve.

"I would rather walk away from the job than watch any more of that. I am absolutely sick to death of it. They are nicking money while people are paying their hard earned cash to go and see them."

And these words come two days after the latest defeat. It is not just this match that Stan is complaining about but those in the last two weeks. That starts with the win at Stoke, the draw at Millwall and then the three losses at Watford, Sheffield United and Walsall.

But the last week has hit him hard and he added, "That was the worst week in my time at Turf Moor, without a doubt. I am not going to keep carrying the can for the players. If I can't shake them up then I don't know what to do. They have got to shake themselves up, it has to come from within the players. They are not having a go and they are bone idle."

So the manager thinks they are bone idle. It is a fact that the fans have been far from happy during this run of away wins. Even the win at Stoke came simply because Stoke were worse than us and not because we had played well.

The three defeats have without doubt been appalling and the distressed and disappointed looks at Watford have now turned to anger and rage. Certain players have been picked on by the fans although there is no doubt that Ternent himself has not come out of unscathed with supporters beginning to wonder about the style of play, in particular at Watford where there seemed no real attempt to go and try to win the game.

But the fans are not the only ones to pick on individuals and Stan said about his right-back Dean West, "I left Westy out because he has been hopeless by his own high standards.

"The performance at Walsall and those in the past couple of weeks have been totally unacceptable and the players are under no illusions how I feel about it".

Earlier in the season Stan said he was considering his position, that came after the defeat at Reading. Afterwards he said that resigning hadn’t crossed his mind and that he had never walked away from anything in his life and wouldn’t do.

So despite his latest threat there is no way that Burnley will be looking for a manager in the near future, this is just an attempt by Stan to get his players motivated.

We are not going to be relegated and it is looking increasingly likely that we are not going to be promoted. That means we could be getting some end of season nothing games. To be honest it looks as though they have already arrived.

Whoever is responsible needs to get it sorted. It’s not all the players’ fault and it’s not all the manager’s fault but they have to collectively accept responsibility and get it sorted.

There is no doubt that the last two weeks has been unacceptable, and someone leaving the Bescot Stadium on Saturday summed it up when he said to me, "That was absolute crap."
