Stan back at the Turf

It was all revealed by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson today when he mentioned bringing a team to play in such a match for Stan although it is obviously something that was already in the pipeline.

So much so that Stan already has a testimonial committee set up chaired by the Editor of Sports Newspapers Tony Livesey, a friend of the former boss and author of ‘Stan the Man’.

Also on the committee is Alastair Campbell and it all came about when Barry Kilby offered the testimonial to Stan and Ferguson immediately said he would send a Manchester United team.

The game is expected to go ahead during pre-season and a date could be arranged within the next couple of days.

Livesey said on Stan's behalf: "This is a fabulous gesture by Sir Alex and Manchester United and it shows how highly regarded Stan is.

"Barry Kilby offered the testimonial to Stan and when Sir Alex got to hear about it, he immediately offered to bring his team. He is expected to bring a full strength team for the game and that is not something that he does for anyone".
