Spicer was with the Clarets for just short of three years and had a number of options after finding himself considered surplus to requirements at Turf Moor but he's elected to join Doncaster because of his previous relationship with the management team.

Sean O'Driscoll and his assistant Richard O'Kelly were the men in charge of Bournemouth during Spicer's time there and they were the main reason he opted for this move. Spicer said: "I'm delighted with this move.

"I watched Doncaster play in the play-offs and I saw the way that they moved the ball, and knowing Richard and Sean, I know that they both like to play football. Looking at the stadium and the facilities, I'm chuffed to bits with the move.

"It's nice to come to a manager who knows you already, and you know them and how the work, plus they know your strengths and you know their strengths. I know that they like to play football and play the right way, which is the way I like to play. Hopefully we can have a good two years together and a successful upcoming season in the Championship.
