Special day for Stan and Glen

Last updated : 08 May 2004 By Tony Scholes

Both of them will be involved with the Clarets for the last time after decisions were made that sees them move on.

Glen has decided after over seven years as a player at the Turf not to sign the new deal that was offered him and will now almost certainly sign for First Division rivals Reading on what is expected to be a three year deal.

Assuming Stan names him in the side, and there seems to be no reason why not, he will make his 246th league appearance for us and there will be many great Glen moments remembered by the crowd.

As for Stan, he will be leaving after the club decided not to offer him a new contract and takes charge of a Burnley team for the last time. It really couldn’t have been against a more appropriate side than Sunderland the club he supported as a boy and the club where he started his coaching career under Bob Stokoe.

It will be an emotional day for both of them there is no question of that, and for us it is time to reflect on the great days that both of them have had during their time at the Turf.

I think it is fair to say that neither of them will be forgotten and I’m sure they will both receive the fantastic reception from the Burnley fans that they so thoroughly deserve.

Thanks Stan and Glen for the last few years and best wishes to both of you as you move on.
