Southampton are relegated

Recently the Football League asked for an independent forensic report after the football club's holding company went into administration. As a result of that report which shows the holding company to have no income of its own, and that the holding company was solvent in its own right, the Football League Board said it was left with no alternative other than to invoke its Sporting Sanctions' and apply a ten point penalty against Southampton Football Club.

As the insolvency event occurred after the league's deadline of the fourth Thursday in March the point deducted will take effect either this season if they avoid relegation (thus relegating them) or next season should they fail to avoid relegation.

It will be an interesting atmosphere at St. Mary's on Saturday.
