Danny Sonner was released by Birmingham at the end of last season after spending most of the season injured. Because of the injury he was never given the opportunity to impress manager Steve Bruce who himself incredibly is still with Birmingham.

He recently had a trial with Wolves but manager Dave Jones decided not to make him an offer and declined the chance to give Sonner a run out in any of their pre-season games but then in stepped West Midlands neighbours Walsall.

Colin Lee has signed him for Walsall, giving him a one year deal, where he will team up in midfield with former Birmingham colleague Martin O’Connor.

It is nine years since Sonner was somewhat surprisingly released by Jimmy Mullen and he went off to Germany before returning to play in the First Division with Ipswich Town. From there he played Premiership football with Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Birmingham two years ago. He has also gone on to play on seven occasions at full international level for Northern Ireland.

He can now expect to come up against the Clarets again next season.
