So close for Steve and Ade

It was almost better for manager Steve Cotterill and striker Ade Akinbiyi who came close to winning individual awards during the month. Last Thursday Reading boss Steve Coppell was announced as the Manager of the Month after they had won all their games during the month.

However, Steve was right on his heels alongside Stoke boss Johan Boskamp but had to settle for third place. He wasn’t too concerned, we all know the problems that tend to befall managers of the month, and said the extra publicity would only give teams a greater incentive to try and beat us.

Yesterday Ade came second in the Powerade Player of the Month award, losing out to Stoke’s Sam Bangoura who has been banging in a few goals recently. It was ex-Claret Glen Little who came third.

There was better news for Ade today when, for the third time this season, it was revealed that he had won a place in the League’s Championship Team of the Week. Rewarded for his performance and goal at Southampton, he’s the only Burnley player in the side. I can only assume there must have been some out of this world defending in the Championship this weekend to keep out Frank Sinclair.

The full team is: Alan Blayney (Brighton), Ibrahima Sonko (Reading), Carl Hoefkens (Stoke), Guy Butters (Brighton), Paul Butler (Leeds), Inigo Idiakez (Derby), David Brammer (Stoke), Alan Quinn (Sheffield Utd), Jody Morris (Millwall), Craig Fagan (Hull), Ade Akinbiyi (Burnley).
