Smith move confirmed

Just three years ago the two clubs were three divisions apart and when manager Chris Turner swapped Victoria Park for Hillsborough during last season the gap was still two divisions.

Next season though they find themselves in the same division for the first time ever but that hasn’t stopped one former Claret making the move to rejoin Turner.

Paul Smith signed for Hartlepool during the 2001/02 season having been without a club for a few months following his release from the Turf. He did well and created lots of goals as they pushed to a play off place.

Last season though he once again missed out with injuries for parts of the season but did win his place back as the Championship favourites finally stuttered through to promotion in second place.

But he turned down the offer of a new deal and is on the move again to rejoin his former manager Turner at Sheffield Wednesday. There has been much speculation that this would happen but Turner has now announced that both Smith and team mate Graeme Lee will become Sheffield Wednesday players on 1st July.

A player with a lot of promise who struggled with a succession of injuries is how many would describe Smith. Hopefully he will have an injury free season and will do well at Wednesday.
