Steve started his career with the Clarets and was a member of the Youth Cup winning side of 1968. He soon won a place in the first team and was leading goalscorer during the 196970 season despite playing on the left wing.

His place in the first team became less than secure with the emergence of Leighton James but it was still something of a surprise when he moved on to Wolves in the summer of 1972 just as we were about to embark on our promotion season.

For the next five years and more he was as popular with the Molineux crowd as he had been at Turf Moor and it was Wolves who moved him from the wing to a more central role.

But in 1977, with things looking desperate at the Turf, he arrived back and played a major role in pulling us clear of the relegation zone with some outstanding performances in the last third of that 77/78 season.

In the following season his goals helped us win the Anglo Scottish Cup. He scored in both legs against Celtic and I don’t think there was ever a reaction to a Kindon goal such as the one in the home leg. HE then went on to tear Oldham apart in the first leg of the final.

With the Clarets in trouble once more in the following season he made his final move, joining 4th Division Huddersfield proving to be the key player in their promotion run.

Injury though was to bring his career to a premature end although he remained in the game for some time as Commercial Manager with the Leeds Road club.

Now he works on the after dinner circuit and last year joined forces with another ex-Claret Paul Fletcher to put together ‘The Boys from Burnley’. Two quieter lads you are never likely to meet !!!

In all he made a total of 225 appearances for the Clarets scoring 58 goals in the two spells with us when he was one of the most exciting and popular players in the side.

Kindon was a very strong player and had devastating pace and there was nothing more exciting than seeing him on one of his runs. He’s not quite so quick these days and will have time to take in the applause as he makes his way to the centre circle.
