Steven Caldwell
Steven Caldwell - first call up since March 2006
I'm always delighted when I hear of Burnley players being called up to play for their country. It reflects well on the club and is a sure sign that we have some very good players. So this morning's news is very pleasing.

Caldwell has joined Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher in the full squad for their World Cup qualifier next week against Norway in Oslo whilst Brian Easton, Alex MacDonald, currently on loan at Falkirk, and Kevin McDonald are in the Under-21 squad for a training camp.

And whilst the six of them head to join the Scottish squads we can make it seven with Martin Paterson's selection for Northern Ireland next week when they play Israel at Windsor Park in a friendly.

It really is terrific news for our club and I would suggest the one surprise is the inclusion of Caldwell. This one has really pleased me, I think he had a superb 2008/09 season and for much of it showed the sort of form he did when he first arrived at Burnley prior to this injury hit 2007/08 season.

He's been capped nine times by his country, but the last of these was back in March 2006 when he came on as a substitute in a 3-1 friendly defeat against Switzerland at Hampden Park,

With so many players missing from training next week it could well cause some disruption, but it is for the very best of reasons. A big well done to all seven of them.
