Sidwell called up – game off now

There was much confusion yesterday with Burnley announcing during the afternoon that the game was off and Reading responding with an evening statement to make it clear that it was in fact still on.

But England have named their under 21 squad and Sidwell is in and that means no game at Turf Moor next Saturday. But really Burnley’s announcement was very premature indeed. Had Sidwell picked up an injury yesterday preventing him being called up then the game would still have gone ahead.

It certainly appears that the communication between the two clubs has not been all it should be as one said one thing and the other the complete opposite. But it is all clear now and the game will be off.

This means our next game is the visit to Ipswich a week on Tuesday and this will now be the game David May misses following his red card a week ago. May would have missed this game in any case having now reached five yellow cards but this will now carry forward to the West Ham game.

The next home game will now be the visit of Millwall in three weeks time.
