Shut your mouth Pearson tells West Brom player

Last updated : 05 November 2014 By Tony Scholes

He wasn't happy when West Brom forward Saido Berahino accused Leicester defender Marcin Wasilewski of elbowing him. Pearson, who has developed a team capable of going down when within five yards of a defender, was not happy.

"Players should keep their mouth shut," he said of Berahino's complaint, adding: "If they want punishment then I'm disappointed with their reaction."

Villa weren't happy either with the dismissal of Christian Benteke but at least their manager Paul Lambert was prepared to confirm that his player was guilty. "I can't condone what Christian did, lifting his hand, but he was provoked," the Villa boss said.

He added: "If you go back a frame you see the lad putting his head in Christian's face. If you do that you understand why Christian did it, you don't get away with it, but my daughter can throw a harder forearm than that."

Benteke will now serve a three match ban which means the Burnley fans won't have the option of seeing him play at Turf Moor in a few weeks time.

Villa were in front at the time but went on to lose the game 2-1, but they did end their long run without a goal, and they ended it early enough to avoid going longer than we did recently.

The crowd were in uproar at the red card, that was more than any noise heard at Chelsea apparently. The league leaders beat QPR at Stamford Bridge but the crowd weren't good enough for Jose Mourinho.

"We are the team to get less support in home matches. When compared to my previous time I think it's getting worse," he said of the home support. He said it was like playing in an empty stadium.

A supporters' representative fought back and put it firmly back in the club's hands. He reckoned that there aren't enough younger supporters in the ground and those that are there are spread around and warned if they dare to stand.

He also, pointedly, said: "Reduce ticket prices and get younger people in."

On the subject of younger people, there were two, one from each camp, behaving like a couple of kids ahead of the Manchester derby. One was Manuel Pellegrini and the other Louis van Gaal, both claiming their clubs to be bigger than the other's.

It was like a 'my dad's bigger than your dad' stuff from the pair. It calmed down eventually and van Gaal got back to sitting down looking into his folder. I'd love to know what's in there, but it's not helping that much.

Sunderland won the last game of the weekend last night, beating Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park. This was a fixture that showed how little the Premier League and television think of the fans. Sunderland to Palace on a Monday night is a nightmare journey and should not be a Monday night fixture.

But the Mackems ended one run with the result. Incredibly it's the first time they've won on a Monday since April 2002. That was Easter Monday and a 2-1 win against Leicester at the Stadium of Light, a game that featured future Claret Frank Sinclair. Claudio Reyna got both their goals that night and Robbie Savage was on the losing side.
