Sheffield United 3 Burnley 0

Last updated : 23 March 2002 By Andy Robinson
The opening goal came on 20 minutes when Phil Jagielka fired home from the edge of the box.

Ian Cox had already limped off injured to be replaced by Alan Moore with Kevin Ball dropping into the back four.

The Clarets did start to improve at the end of the half and almost equalised but DJ fired over from 6 yards after clever play by Ian Moore had set him up.

Before Burnley could get going in the second period it was 2-0 as Lauren D'Jaffo smashed a 30 yard shot past Beresford.

Things did improve slightly with Gareth Taylor having a couple of chances and Gascoigne almost scoring from a free kick before he was substituted on 70 minutes after a performance that was less impressive than against Bradford.

The Clarets last chance was on 80 minutes when Taylor's header came back off the bar.

To rub further salt in the wound Jagielka made it 3-0 as time ran out.
