Sharp not for Burnley

Billy Sharp - no move to Burnley
Presumably because Steve Cotterill was spotted at a couple of Scunthorpe games, the rumour mill went into overdrive and with Sharp, a £100,000 capture from Sheffield United just a year ago, scoring goals aplenty, we got another case of two and two being put together.

Some media sources would have you believe the striker is already committed to signing for Burnley, others confirming he is on his way in a £300,000 move once the transfer window opens. They didn't let a statement from Scunthorpe spoil a good story, a statement that made it clear there had been no approach from Burnley.

We stayed quiet, that is until today when we now have the Sheffield media preparing the Blades for their cut in the transfer, they have a 25% sell on clause.

Steve Cotterill today finally put an end to the rumours saying: “Someone is being very active promoting him. But if I had £300,000 to spend I would have spent it by now.” And he also scotched the nonsense regarding Portsmouth adding: “I will not be going to Portsmouth as Harry's number two. He is a good friend of mine but that's as far as it goes.”
