Shackell was again in outstanding form as the Clarets kept an eighth clean sheet of the season and repeated the achievement of five years ago by completing a Premier League double over Hull.
In a closely fought man of the match vote, he always held the lead and won it with a 29.2% share, behind his central defensive partner Michael Duff who came in second having won 20.1% of the vote.
Danny Ings scored his first goal since Old Trafford and his overall performance saw him claim 17.2% to take third place with goalkeeper Tom Heaton coming in fourth with 12.4% of the vote.
The same four players were in the first four positions in the player ratings. It was Shackell again in first place with a rating of 7.90 out of 10, just edging out Heaton for whom a rating of 7.86 won him second place. Duff and Ings both had ratings of 7.67 out of 10 to win fourth place.
Shackell won ten points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. There were five points for Duff and four each for Heaton and Ings.
Those points have changed things at the top of the table with Shackell now going into first place top with 101 points, taking over from Ings who has moved his points total up to 99. With two games remaining, no other player can now win the player of the year title.
There's also a battle for third place with Ashley Barnes, George Boyd, Heaton and Duff now separated by just five points.
The first of those last two votes will be for the home game against Stoke and will be available within an hour of the final whistle on Saturday.
