Shackell was outstanding as the Clarets kept a sixth clean sheet this season in the league, assuring another victory once Scott Arfield had headed us in front with ten minutes remaining, and Shackell's performance won him the man of the match vote.
It was always between two players; the captain and the goalscorer. Shackell won it with 29.3% of the vote with Arfield securing second place with a 23.2% share. David Jones, whose performance included the pass of the season so far, was third. He had 16.4% of the vote and 10.8% of the vote gave Shackell's central defensive partner Michael Duff fourth place.
There was a somewhat different looking top four in the player ratings with Arfield and Duff not making the top four. Jones was the winner with a rating of 8.67 out of 10, just ahead of Shackell who was second with 8.50.
They were the only two players to pass eight and third and fourth places went to Dean Marney and Kieran Trippier with ratings of 7.83 and 7.75 out of 10.
Shackell won eight points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Just behind him was Jones with seven points and there were also three points for Arfield, two for Marney and one each for Duff and Trippier.
With the strikers, for once, having a quieter day, it allowed Shackell to move back to the top and go six points clear of Vokes who is a further nine points ahead of Danny Ings. Jones has now moved ahead of Trippier into fourth place.
The next vote will be the man of the match for the QPR game and you will be able to cast your vote within an hour of the final whistle.
