Sergeant adds to international set

Goalkeeper Jonathan Sergeant had a difficult night as Northern Ireland were beaten 4-0 by Switzerland in a friendly at the Newry Showgrounds. He wasn't helped by some poor defensive lapses in front of him against or by the fact that Northern Ireland played over half of the game with ten men after they had a player sent off.

Coach Mal Donaghy, whose side were playing in this game as a build up to a UEFA tournament in Cyprus in October, said: "I think we must get things into perspective, this was our first get-together and our players know there is a lot of hard work to be done in the next few months.

"This Swiss team are a very talented outfit, physically strong and technically sound. In saying that we certainly contributed to our own downfall, gifting them their first two goals through defensive errors."

Having played well enough himself, Jonathan will be hoping to retain his place in the squad for the October tournament.
