Second game for Miller

Last updated : 13 March 2007 By Tony Scholes
Miller was previously at Home Park when we took on Plymouth back in October, and it was a disappointing performance from him. It was the first time I'd seen this referee in what is his second season on the Football League list.

Fair enough, he caught out Plymouth every time with their tactic of going down very easily in the box, and on no fewer than four occasions he awarded free kicks our way after he'd caught them diving, but disappointingly took no further action against their players.

At this stage of the season yellow cards don't mean quite so much but there's no doubt Burnley will need to be more cautious than Southend with a referee who is far more likely to yellow card an away team player. The figures are not as exaggerated as last season but of the 69 yellow cards he's handed out this season in 28 games just 27 of them have gone to home team players with 42 to away team players.

He's not the most pro-active of referees when it comes to red cards, there have been just three this season, but as was the case last season he has not sent off one single home team player. Gary Breen of Wolves was the first player to get a red card from him this season in their 4-0 defeat at Cardiff. It was for an elbow but the player won an appeal.

He then sent off Hereford's Dean Beckwith as they went down 3-0 at Shrewsbury and finally at the beginning of this month he dismissed Macclesfield's Jordan Hadfield as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Wycombe.

Back to Plymouth, and there was nothing too worrying, but clearly he's a referee who is much more likely to punish the away team.

He will be assisted tonight by Steven Cook (Surrey) and David Phillips (Sussex) whilst the fourth official duties will be in the hands of John Hayto (Essex).
