Second cup tie for Jones

Last updated : 03 February 2009 By Tony Scholes
He's had some eventful times at Turf Moor and he's also upset Baggies boss Tony Mowbray on a couple of occasions. Both he and Blackburn boss Paul Ince slammed his handling of their clash at the Hawthorns this season and two seasons ago he was the referee who sent off Paul McShane after the clash of heads with James O'Connor.

McShane is the third player he's sent off at Burnley. Michael Duff saw his red card in the 2004/05 season and the other was memorable when Craig Hignett received his marching orders and had to walk almost the full length of the field.

Jones is usually quite liberal with his cards but this season in 24 games has handed out just 63 yellow cards and 4 red cards. The most recent of those red cards was Ricardo Fuller after his altercation with his own captain Andy Griffin. Of those yellow cards 27 have gone to home team players and 36 to away team players.

He had a decent enough game for the Carling Cup tie earlier in the season, more of the same would be fine from one of the Premier League's newest officials.

He will be assisted by Mark Scholes (Buckinghamshire) and Glenn Turner (Derbyshire) whilst Football League referee David Foster (Tyne & Wear) will be the fourth official. I can confirm that none of the officials are related to anyone involved with this web site.
