Second Burnley game for Haywood

Last updated : 28 October 2008 By Tony Scholes

He's in his third season on the Football League list having previously been an assistant referee in the league. His first Burnley game was the home 1-1 draw against Leicester last season when he scored just 41.84 in our Rate the Ref feature.

His rating of 7.63 out of 25 for fitness and positioning was the lowest recorded, even lower than Trevor Kettle, for another referee who appeared to have real difficulty getting up and down the pitch.

There were no cards in that game, and he's not a card happy referee. In 35 games last season he handed out just 71 yellow cards and three red cards. So far this season he's equalled his red card count but in twelve games has given out only eleven yellow cards.

Two of those red cards came in his first game of the season as Macclesfield beat Blackpool in the Carling Cup. He sent off Keith Southern of Blackpool twelve minutes into the second half and evened it up two minutes later with the dismissal of Macclesfield's Terry Dunfield.

In his last game, just a week ago, he sent off Chester's Glen Rule with them 1-0 down at Rochdale. The home side went on to win the game 6-1.

Shaun Brisley of Macclesfield was his first yellow card of the season and he remains the only home player to see his yellow card. The other ten yellow cards have gone to away team players.

Tonight he will be assisted by Andrew Scregg (Merseyside) and Iain Siddall (Lancashire) whilst the fourth official duties will be in the hands of Michael Denton (Lancashire).
