Sean Dyche - his profile

dycheDyche was considered an uncompromising central defender and joined his first club Nottingham Forest as a youth team player during the period when Brian Clough was manager. He never made the breakthrough at the City Ground and that led him to pastures new, moving up to Derbyshire to sign for Chesterfield.

That was early in 1990 and he'd dropped into the bottom division, making an immediate debut as a substitute against Maidstone in February. He was in the starting line up for the following game, and for the remainder of the season.

It was then that he first came up against Burnley, playing in the centre of Chesterfield's defence in a 0-0 Turf Moor draw in April of the same year.

He spent over seven years at Saltergate, captaining the side and leading them to promotion in 1995 via the play offs with a win against Bury at Wembley.

Two years later he was very close to another Wembley appearance. They reached the semi-final of the FA Cup and he scored Chesterfield's second goal from the penalty spot to put them 2-0 in what ended a 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough. Unfortunately they were beaten heavily in the replay.

After almost 270 games for Chesterfield, he moved on in the summer of 1997, signing for John Ward at Bristol City. In his first season they won promotion but things didn't work out in the second season for either Ward or Dyche. Ward lost his job and Dyche eventually moved on to Luton in a loan deal.

That led to another transfer to Millwall in the summer of 1999 where again he added a promotion to his CV in the 2000/01 season as Millwall reached what is now the Championship. He had three years there, after which came three years at Watford and two more at Northampton followed.

He won yet another promotion with Northampton in his first season before calling time on his playing career after over 500 league and cup games at the end of the 2006/07 season, his last game being a 4-1 defeat at Blackpool in April 2007. He scored the last goal of the game, an own goal.

He immediately returned to Watford to take up the role of youth team coach and worked at Vicarage Road until the end of the 2011/12 season. Having been part of the setting up of their youth academy, he was promoted to work with the first team during the time Brendan Rodgers was manager and then became Malky Mackay's assistant manager.

Mackay wanted to take Dyche to Cardiff but instead he remained with Watford, becoming their new manager. His team included former Forest team mates Ian Woan and Tony Loughlan who are both expected to join him at Burnley.

His one season in charge saw them finish eleventh in the table, but with the Udinese takeover he found himself out of work. He's since been involved with the England Under-21 squad, working alongside another ex-Forest team mate Stuart Pearce.

He's also been doing work for Sky, reporting from games on Saturday which is unbelievable Jeff.

That is until now, when he is expected to be named the new manager of Burnley Football Club.
